Jitterbug AKA Single Swing is a variation of East Coast Swing or Jive that replaces the triple step portion of the figure with a with a single sidestep.
It is assumed that the name came from dancers “jittering like bugs.” The word itself is a synonym for the terms “lindy” or “lindy hop.” The terms referred to the same dance. Another less-popular name for the dance was “swing.” Both terms “jitterbug” and “lindy” were popular in the 30s.
